Labor day is especially important to me this year because of the renewed attacks on organized labor that is becoming commonplace across our nation and has only served to strengthen my commitment to advance progressive politics in our district and further afield.
It also marks a bittersweet close of summer and our hiatus that signifies a return to our regular meetings. Please note that our meeting date has been changed to September 19th because of a conflict with the county executive committee meeting.

The Fall New York County Democratic Committee Cocktail Party is once again upon us. This fundraiser is also the event where the candidates for the Supreme Court will be announced. The Cocktail Party will be September 8th at 6:00 pm at SEIU 32 BJ, 101 Avenue of the Americas, club members are entitled to a discounted ticket rate of $50. Also on September 8th is the second Community Forum On Parks & Waterfront Access On The East Side. It will be held at the Sutton Place Synagogue, 225 East 51st Street, at 4:00 pm. The third and final forum will be held on September 20th at 5:00 pm at NYU Langone Medical Center, 550 First Avenue Smilow Seminar Room. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and NY County Democrats are invited to participate in Hand in Hand on September 10th. This event will consist of a hand-in-hand line spanning Manhattan’s west side from Battery Park up the Hudson River waterfront in a demonstration of remembrance and reflection. The New York County Judicial Convention will be held on September 22nd at 6:00 pm again this year at Harlem Hospital, 506 Lenox Avenue and 135th Street. Delegates and alternate delegates should wear their Tilden t-shirt so we stand out of the crowd. If you have not yet received your t-shirt; please email me to arrange for a pick-up.

The New York County Committee Meeting is scheduled for September 26th at 6:00 pm and will be conducted at the SVA Theater at 260 West 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue. County Committee members should attend in their Tilden t-shirt. Again, if you have not yet received one please let me know.

Because we have no contested races is our Assembly District, there will be no primary election this year. Please make sure that any poll workers you might normally work with are aware of this and do not attempt to report for work in our district. This might be especially confusing since there are primaries elsewhere in the county.
