2012 Tilden Annual Dinner – Save the Date!

We hope see everyone at our annual dinner on Thursday, April 26th as we celebrate 59 years of Tilden serving the community!  Look for your invitation in the mail; if you do not receive one by April 1st, please email steven@tildendemocrats.com.  At the dinner we will be honoring County Democratic Chair Assemblyman Keith Wright, along with Tildenites – and community leaders – Claude and Shelley Winfield.

Just a reminder that our next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012. Our guest for the evening will be Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.
The New York State Primary date for federal elections (U.S. Congress and Senate) has been set for Tuesday, June 26th. Petitioning is set to begin on Tuesday, March 20th. While a date has not been finalized for state offices (Assembly, Senate, State Committee), it is possible that the primaries for those offices will also be held on June 26th, with a similar petitioning schedule.

Thus, we will be holding our Candidates’ Night, and Endorsement Night, for all 2012 candidates at our next meeting. The information – same as always! – is below. Also, attached please find a proposed agenda.

November Meeting

Upcoming Tilden Events

Our next meeting will be a very special one, the donations committee will be hosting the Tilden 2011 Donations Award Reception.  Please join other Tilden members in celebrating the work of these amazing organizations over light refreshments at Seafarer’s 123 East 15th Street on Thursday, October 27th at 7:30pm.

The Executive Committee will convene briefly prior to the Award Reception at 6:30 pm on October 27th for the sole purpose of electing an Elections Committee as per Section 2 of our by-laws.

Election Day is just around the corner, November 8th.  Please remind your neighbors to go to the polls and if you are interested in assisting as a poll watcher or observing the closing of the polls please contact District Leader Lousie Dankberg for more information.

Tilden member and mother of Executive Committee member Julie Torres, Catherine Donato is celebrating a truely remarkable milestone, her 100th birthday.

Induction of Past Tilden President and Supreme Court Judge Deborah Kaplan will be held on January 19th.  Further details and invitations to follow.

Judicial Candidate’s Night

Don’t forget this Monday at 8pm the Judicial Candidates have been invited to address the Tilden membership.  Each candidate will be given an opportunity to briefly introduce him or herself and answer a few questions.  We will be joined by our sister club GSID at Seafarer’s at 123 East 15th Street on the 2nd Floor.

Tilden’s members are known around the county for great things and this year we are pleased to have two of our own who are Candidates for Justice of the Supreme Court of New York.  All of the Tilden family are invited to join them in support at their receptions.

Here are a few more important democratic happenings that you should be aware of.

‘Most Highly Qualified’ Supreme Court candidates

The Supreme Court Independent Screening Panel has reported out and the candidates have been invited to our general meeting- Monday, September 19th at 8:00pm for a brief introduction and question period by the audience.

In addition to Judges Deborah Kaplan, Saliann Scarpulla, Manuel Mendez and Ellen Gesmer who were reported out twice from previous Independent Screening Panels and are thus eligible for consideration,  the following nine judges were deemed  ‘Most Highly Qualified’ to be Supreme Court candidates:

Arthur Engoron, Shlomo Hagler, Barbara Jaffe, Rita Mella, Peter Moulton, Ruth Pickholz, George Silver, Anil Singh, and Analisa Torres.

Help elect a Democrat!
